The making of it
The centrepiece your grandmother had, in the form your flat can accommodate. A spun brass urli from a workshop in Moradabad, with six floating wax flowers. Fill it with water on the day, float the flowers, light them. The brass ages from bright to dull gold over a year. That is the entire point.

How to use it
- 01First burn: two hours, until the melt pool reaches the edge. This decides how the rest of its life goes.
- 02Trim the wick to 5 mm before every burn.
- 03Never burn longer than four hours.
- 04Never leave it unattended, and keep it away from a fan.
