Unrefined Shea Butter

The butter that does the looking after

Deeply conditioningGhanaIn 21 products

Pressed from the nut of the karité tree and left unrefined, so it keeps the fatty acids that refining strips out. It is what stops a cleansing bar from leaving skin tight, and why our whipped soaps feel like cream rather than foam.

How we use it

Its part in the formulations

Not a list written for this page. Each of these is the role recorded against unrefined shea butter in one of our own recipes — so it cannot drift from what is actually in the bar.

  • Emollient
  • The base we melt — the gentlest one we buy
  • Extra, stirred in off the heat
  • Deeply emollient

On the label it reads Butyrospermum Parkii.

What it works with

Made with care

How it is made matters as much as what is in it

Batches of sixty
Small enough that one person watches the whole pour. Nothing is made a pallet at a time, which is why a colour shifts a little between batches — and why we would rather it did.
Made by hand
Melted, blended, poured, cut and wrapped by hand. The cutting marks are real, and no two bars weigh the same to the gram.
Never tested on animals
Not by us, and not by anyone we buy from. There is no version of a bar of soap that needs an animal to prove it is safe.
Vegan, where it can be
Most of the range is. The honey soap and the beeswax candles are not, and they are named as such on their own pages rather than hidden behind an asterisk.

Every ingredient, and why

The whole library — what each material does, where the ones worth naming come from, and the list of what we refuse to use.
